Police said about 220,000 protesters turned out in Seoul for the latest mass rally against scandal-hit Park Geun-hye - though organisers said it was more like one million.
There are suspicions she allowed her close friend Choi Soon-sil to manipulate government policy and decision making.
There are also claims Ms Choi used her presidential ties to bully companies into donating tens of millions of dollars to foundations she controlled.
Demonstrators flooded the streets for more than a mile - and it is thought to be the largest demonstration yet.
Despite rising public anger and weekly protests, opposition parties have yet to seriously push for Ms Park's resignation or impeachment.
Many feel this is over fears of triggering a backlash from conservative voters and negatively affecting next year's presidential race.
But Moon Jae-in, an MP from the main opposition Minjoo Party, has called for the president to surrender her authority to command South Korea's military.
The opposition is also demanding a separate investigation into the scandal by a special prosecutor.
Ms Choi is currently under arrest on charges of fraud and abuse of power.
Prosecutors have until 20 November to formally charge her.
There is also a possibility prosecutors will eventually investigate Ms Park, who said during a televised apology last week she would accept a direct investigation into her actions.
She has also reshuffled top officials and even agreed to relinquish some of her extensive executive powers.
Under South Korean law, the president has immunity from prosecution except in cases of treason, but she can be investigated.
Ms Park has 15 months left in her term.
